Principal Systems Engineer, Team Lead
Job Description:

The Principal Systems Engineer, Team Lead is a highly visible and rewarding role within a rapidly growing venture-backed startup at the intersection of the online video advertising and media industries.  The Principal Systems Engineer, Team Lead will be responsible for researching, designing, testing, implementing and maintaining software systems to meet client and/or employer needs. He/she will use a variety of computer operating systems and applications, leading a team of other IT professionals. The position requires a responsible, team oriented, well organized individual with strong communications skills and the ability to handle multiple concurrent projects while adapting quickly to rapidly changing priorities.

Specific Responsibilities Include:
  • Research, design, build and test LAMP based systems
  • Manage multiple collocation environments
  • Develop existing systems by analyzing and identifying areas for modification
  • Maintain systems by monitoring, identifying and correcting hardware defects
  • Investigate new technologies
  • Create technical specifications and test plans
  • Work with shell scripting languages
  • Write operational documentation with technical authors
  • Work closely with other staff such as project managers, graphic artists, systems analysts, and sales and marketing professionals
  • Think laterally as part of a team or individually to problem solve and meet the needs of the project
Specific Qualifications Include:
  • 8+ RHES v3/4/5 and/or CentOS v3/4/5
  • 6+ years designing complex multi tier networks running Linux
  • 6+ years in relevant 24x7 highly available, on-call environments
  • 6+ years Apache development or other HTTPD server environments
  • 6+ years maintaining / managing HA mysql server environments or Oracle RAC
  • 6+ years writing Perl/sh scripts
  • 4+ years working with PHP
  • 4+ years managing Bind DNS servers
  • Streaming technologies, Macromedia FCS / FMS / Windows Media / QuickTime
  • Proven analytical / problem solving ability
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new skills quickly
  • Able to work independently
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible yet detail oriented, organized personality with an ability to multitask
  • Strong understanding of the systems development lifecycle process
